Hello from the New Kid on the Rx Outreach Block
My name is Lora, and I’m the new summer AmeriCorps VISTA Communications Consultant Summer Associate here at Rx Outreach.
Has this happened to you? In the middle of a seemingly normal conversation, there it is—that way too familiar sentence. “Then COVID-19 hit.”
My story is one of those stories. I was going along in my life as a mid-level manager. Then COVID-19 hit. I thought. Is this it? Is this all I am going to contribute? Just as I was thinking this, I heard about this volunteer position at Rx Outreach, and I knew this was the place for me.
Divine intervention? You can judge for yourself.
I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to help spread the word about Rx Outreach. I was blown away by the brilliant and straightforward “people-over-profits” philosophy that drives our work. I can’t wait to tell you all about my discoveries. There is so much wonderfulness coming out of this lean and not-at-all mean organization. And! It has not even been two weeks!
Also, I am thrilled to be learning more about social media. I hope to use this experience to get started on a second career. If my plan is successful, I will either be creating social media for not-for-profits or become a glamourous world-traveling social lifestyle expert and influencer.
I’ll let you know what I decide.
I’m not sure if you have heard about the VISTA program. It stands for Volunteers In Service to America, my second term as a VISTA. (I’ll tell you more about VISTA later.) I’m doing a summer assignment, but I plan on staying connected to this organization forever!
I love to travel, read, go for long walks, and swim. I live near Chicago, Illinois.
Stay tuned!
