What is Cancer?
Cancer occurs when the body begins to exponentially create abnormal cells and the body is not able to regulate the growth. The overgrowth of abnormal cells begin to crowd the normal cells, thus negatively impacting the typical functions of the body. There are various types of cancer that can affect different parts of the body. Each type varies in how fast they grow and spread, as well as response to treatment.

How does it affect me?
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), 1 in 3 people in the United States are impacted by cancer 1. The ACS projects 1.9 million new cancer diagnoses and 608,570 cancer deaths in 2021. However, the death rate has dropped by about 3.2 million between 1991 and 2018 primarily due to early detection advances in cancer treatment 2.
