Our Patient H.E.R.O is turning 100!

Rx Outreach Patient Regina Feldman is turning 100 years old and we’re honored to honor her as our newest Patient H.E.R.O. (Happily Encouraging Rx Outreach). Hold on to your superhero cape! Because this is a good one!

You will be happy to know that 1921 was an exciting year. According to Onthisday.com:

  • March 3 – Toronto’s Dr. Banting & Dr. Best announce the discovery of insulin

  • July 20 – Congresswoman Alice Mary Robertson becomes the first woman to preside over the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives

Not according to Onthisday.com (and some may say most importantly)

  • August 26, 1921 – Mrs. Regina Feldman was born

Regina Feldman will turn 100 years young and is our newest H.E.R.O.

I spoke to Regina and her daughter Mona on what was a rainy Monday morning. I was lucky that it was raining in their hometown of Flushing, New York since on a typical Monday, they would be out at a lovely park near the Long Island Sound or enjoying breakfast at a local restaurant.

Regina was born on the same day as Rosie the Riveter and left Germany as a teen to escape Hitler. Her parents managed to get her and her two younger siblings out of the country, and they settled in Brooklyn, New York. She was married to Mona and Robert’s father for 65 years. Mona’s brother Robert is also an amazing support to the family, he takes his mom out for lunch every week so that Mona can do errands.

Regina loves to laugh; her daughter describes her as a live wire; I couldn’t agree more. Life for the duo revolves around food and family. At least twice a week, they get out to visit some open spaces. Mona is conscientious now where they go due to COVID-19.

Regina says that the secret to a long life is not to smoke, have some wine once in a while, and keep busy with family. Mona agrees; she wants to make sure her mom goes to bed each night with a happy thought or laugh as her caregiver. She knows it is working as her mom wakes up happy every day.

I asked Regina what she thought was the most important invention of her lifetime. She said that so many inventions have changed lives, but if she had to pick one she would say computers. They have allowed us to stay connected so much easier. You can feel how their lives revolve around family, so it is not surprising that Regina appreciates being able to talk with and see the faces of her cousins in North Carolina.

A patient of Rx Outreach since 2017, Regina appreciates the delivery right to her door. She can’t be bothered running around picking up medications. She and her daughter have things to do. Along with the delivery, Regina really appreciates the reminder calls to refill her prescription.  She says, “The customer service representatives at Rx Outreach are wonderful!  They’re extremely helpful and courteous whenever we call.”  Regina’s very happy to be a member of Rx Outreach. On behalf of our entire team, “We appreciate you too, Regina!”

My last question was what advice she would give to a younger person. Mona said that she thought people treat others the way they want to be treated, and in the background, I heard Regina shout, “Mind your own business, that’s enough!”

Wisdom for the ages.

Rx Outreach staff offer our deepest birthday wishes to Regina as she celebrates her 100th birthday and thank her daughter Mona and son Robert for their selfless service as their mother’s caretakers.  We are honored to serve Regina as an Rx Outreach patient.

Regina and Mona stay active
